Administrative Controls Move to the SharePoint Admin Center
Viva Connections multi-home site management is changing addresses, and legacy entry points will soon redirect administrators to a new interface.
Microsoft is moving multi-home site management out of the Microsoft 365 admin center and directly into the SharePoint admin center during August 2026. From this centralized location, admins can create and remove Home sites, set audience targeting, and adjust priority ordering for multi-brand deployment setups.
Existing access routes inside the Microsoft 365 admin center will redirect to the new SharePoint experience automatically.
Deprecation of the Legacy Governance Model
This relocation brings structural changes to intranet configuration. Microsoft is deprecating legacy Viva Connections instances alongside the older draft or enabled management model.
As part of this update, Microsoft upgrades existing Viva Connections experiences to full Home sites automatically. The dual-object architecture—where a Connections instance and a SharePoint Home site operated as separate entities—is going away entirely to streamline admin controls.
Essential Action Items for M365 Administrators
IT administrative teams should execute three straightforward steps to update runbooks and maintain operational readiness:
- Identify administrative owners: Confirm who on your team handles Viva Connections multi-home site management, ensuring they know where the controls live.
- Update internal runbooks: Revise administrative documentation and guides that still reference the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Review priority hierarchy: Verify your Home site priority sequence once the new SharePoint admin center controls go live.
Ways SimpleSharepoint simplifies this process:
- Intranet Architecture Audits: We review your current Home site configurations and audience targeting rules following administrative moves.
- Governance Runbook Updates: We help update your administrative documentation to match current Microsoft 365 management interfaces.
- Multi-Brand Priority Setup: We configure priority ordering for multi-tenant or multi-brand setups to ensure proper content delivery.
