The Expanded Purview Update

Microsoft Purview is expanding a sensitivity-label setting so that labels set to block connected experiences now block every service that analyzes content in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint — including Microsoft 365 Copilot, along with experiences like Designer, Translator, and automatic labeling. It’s rolling out to general availability through mid-2026, and it applies automatically to existing labels that already have this setting turned on.

That last part is the one to sit up for. Because it enforces against labels you already created, the behavior of your most-protected documents can change without anyone editing a policy. For confidentiality that’s often exactly right — but only if it’s a decision you made, not one you discovered after the fact.
