Content Storage Shift, Deletion Dates, and OneDrive Transition

The Microsoft Whiteboard migration deadline has officially shifted, giving tenant administrators three additional weeks to complete content transitions.

Specifically, Microsoft pushed the cutover date from August 22 to September 25, 2026. As a result, organizations have a longer window to transfer legacy content to OneDrive-backed storage. However, subsequent phases remain strictly unchanged. Legacy whiteboards will undergo permanent deletion starting October 16, 2026. Furthermore, the standalone Whiteboard app faces retirement on November 30, 2026. Therefore, administrators must update internal project roadmaps immediately to maintain data security.

Updated Migration Milestones and Deletion Schedules

To ensure your tenant remains fully compliant, keep these critical target dates in mind:

  • Extended migration cutoff: Content transfer to OneDrive-backed whiteboards must be completed by September 25, 2026.
  • Permanent deletion date: Microsoft will permanently delete all unmigrated legacy whiteboards on October 16, 2026.
  • App deprecation schedule: The legacy standalone Whiteboard application reaches end-of-life on November 30, 2026.
