Web Page Authoring Options and Custom Script Governance

New authoring options for HTML pages in SharePoint are scheduled to arrive soon, offering new ways to display web layouts inside Microsoft 365 sites.

According to Microsoft’s roadmap, users will soon be able to generate HTML pages in SharePoint using Copilot or upload files built outside the platform. These files will save into the Site Pages library and display alongside standard ASPX pages. The Targeted Release rollout for web users starts in October 2026. This capability helps design teams quickly host external layouts without rebuilding pages using custom web parts.

Operational Questions and Security Governance

While native HTML support makes publishing faster, key technical details remain unconfirmed by Microsoft:

  • Custom script rules: Microsoft has not clarified if uploaded markup follows tenant custom script policies, which exist to prevent security risks from arbitrary code.
  • Admin controls: Policy options to restrict or manage HTML creation across sites have not yet been documented.
  • Licensing requirements: Further details are needed on whether HTML creation requires specific AI or enterprise add-on licenses.

Strategic Planning Recommendations for IT Leads

Because documentation and admin settings are still pending, IT leads should prepare using a phased approach:

  • Identify use cases: Map out current design projects or campaign pages that would benefit from direct HTML rendering.
  • Review script settings: Check your current tenant custom script policy to understand how your environment handles custom code.
  • Monitor official updates: Track Microsoft Learn and Message Center announcements for policy guidance before planning site rollouts.

How our team helps you prepare:

  • Use Case Inventory: We work with you to find where HTML pages in SharePoint can replace custom web parts so your pilot relies on real use cases.
  • Custom Script Posture Review: We help you check current tenant settings to see how new authoring features interact with existing site rules.
  • Intranet Architecture Guidance: We assist in setting up site page libraries to support both modern ASPX layouts and incoming web markup cleanly.
