If you are looking for a way to permanently delete People Skills data from your tenant, Microsoft is finally launching a dedicated compliance valve. Somewhere in your environment, an AI service may have already built a profile of what every employee is good at—skills they confirmed, skills it inferred, and skills imported from other systems. Plenty of organizations turned People Skills on without ever deciding they wanted that map, or who it should answer to.
Microsoft is adding the way out.
Irreversible Tenant Deletion Rules
Starting in July 2026, a new admin control lets an organization permanently erase this profile mapping from their tenant. Once it’s initiated, skills stop appearing on profile cards and stop feeding Microsoft 365 Copilot, Viva Insights, and other ecosystem experiences.
The decision to delete People Skills data is admin-only and irreversible, with most data removed across the system within a few days. This completely wipes:
- The entire organizational skills library.
- Every user’s confirmed skills.
- All AI-inferred talent metrics.
- All third-party imported data profiles.

This update serves as the crucial offboarding mechanism for a feature that tends to opt you in through adoption rather than a deliberate choice. When you delete People Skills data, you reset the perimeter of what internal search models can assume about your staff.
