Advanced Connector Policies drive most of our Power Platform governance discussions today. We have audited several client environments through this exact framework already this year.

The old Data Loss Prevention (DLP) model relied on three coarse buckets: Business, Non-Business, and Blocked. That framework let connectors through entirely or blocked them completely. It provided zero action-level granularity. It also failed to govern the Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers used by modern AI agents.

Advanced Connector Policies reached general availability on June 4, 2026. This release replaced the classic DLP framework with a strict default-deny allowlist. Every connector, action, and MCP server remains blocked until an administrator explicitly permits it. This single structural change exposed quiet over-permissioning across many audited environments.
