MDA Information Systems

MDA faced several challenges in resource information management:

• Tracking of resource information across various spreadsheets and MS Access databases without a unified reporting system for clients or their customers.
• The need for a more sophisticated system to handle the requirements of a new RFP, along with desired automation upgrades.

To enhance their resource management and reporting capabilities, we undertook the following steps:

• Set up a standalone SharePoint 2013 farm on a virtual machine to allow MDA staff to collaborate directly with our team.
• Employed an iterative design process to effectively manage and display large amounts of data using SharePoint’s robust features.
• Integrated key SharePoint BI tools and services including:
  • Excel Services for interactive data presentation using slicers and dicers within Power Pivot workbooks.
  • PowerPivot for scheduled data refreshes, enhancing real-time data accuracy.
  • Performance Point Services and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Developed a SharePoint org chart tool linked to Active Directory for improved organizational visibility.

The implementation of the Project Resource Information System Manager (PRISM) led to significant improvements:

• Enhanced usability of data within SharePoint lists for comprehensive reporting and dashboard management.
• Creation of dynamic dashboards utilizing Excel charts and pivot tables integrated with SharePoint data.
• Robust reporting features enabled by SSRS and Excel Services, providing detailed insights into resource management.
• A scalable framework that supports future expansions to connect with external data sources as needed.
• A streamlined document management system that efficiently tracks project management reports, RFPs, and other crucial project data.
• Automated generation of organizational charts, improving the understanding of company structure and facilitating resource planning.

This comprehensive solution not only met the immediate needs of MDA but also provided a scalable platform for future growth and integration, aligning with their ongoing pursuit of technological advancement and operational efficiency.
