Heritage Medical Associates is the largest independent multi-specialty physician’s group in Middle Tennessee, established in 1991. With over 100 physicians covering 10 specialties in addition to primary care, Heritage is renowned for its caring, friendly, and quality healthcare services.

Challenge

Heritage Medical Associates sought to brand their SharePoint 2013 farm in alignment with their corporate messaging and marketing style. The goal was to create a sophisticated user interface that did not resemble the typical SharePoint layout but still utilized its features for calendars, announcements, and other key functionalities.

What We Did

Our solution involved several key stages:

  • Initial Development: We set up a virtual machine on our network with a dedicated web application for Heritage, initiating the branding process.
  • Collaborative Design: Working closely with Heritage’s team, we refined the design on our network before transferring it to their farm for better accessibility and interaction.
  • Integration of Features: We incorporated third-party web parts to enhance functionality, such as color-coded calendars, while ensuring the integration felt seamless and native to SharePoint.
  • Dev Farm and Managed Services: After launching the production environment, we established a development farm to manage updates and service packs. This was crucial when an update disrupted their production search capability, prompting us to temporarily use the dev farm as the production environment. We subsequently rebuilt the production farm and restored the data to leverage more robust resources.

The Result

The rebranded SharePoint intranet significantly enhanced internal communication and collaboration for Heritage Medical Associates. Beyond functional improvements, the new intranet also contributed to an intangible lift in staff morale, showcasing the impact of well-designed digital tools on workplace culture.
