Microsoft 365 profile card visibility changes by default on August 24, 2026. Microsoft is expanding which fields appear automatically across Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint by surfacing eleven previously hidden Microsoft Graph and Entra ID properties whenever they contain data.

Why Does This Update Impact IT Compliance?

Once the new Microsoft 365 profile card visibility defaults take effect, previously opt-in attributes become visible without prior warning. Fields such as Employee Number, Cost Center, Division, and User Principal Name (UPN) will surface automatically if populated.

A newly visible field can raise real questions about internal data privacy. If your organization treats certain HR-sourced data as need-to-know, August 24 is the firm deadline to configure exclusions.

Key Action Items Before the August Deadline

To maintain strict data governance, IT administrators should complete three essential steps:

  • Field inventory: Pull the current profile card field-visibility list before August 24.
  • HR and Legal alignment: Confirm with compliance teams which Graph attributes must stay hidden.
  • Policy configuration: Execute field exclusions using the Microsoft Graph API or Microsoft 365 admin center before default changes take effect.

Are you unsure which directory attributes your tenant will expose on August 24? We can help you review and secure your profile card configuration before the default behavior switches.

How SimpleSharepoint protects your tenant data:

  • Data Mapping: We audit populated Entra ID fields to identify potential exposure risks.
  • Graph API Configuration: We deploy automated PowerShell and Graph API scripts to hide sensitive properties tenant-wide.
  • Governance Alignment: We build long-term policies so future schema updates do not bypass your compliance controls.
