Microsoft 365 Copilot usage reports just received the major refresh that administrators measuring business adoption have requested.
Microsoft is rolling out an updated reporting experience for its suite of generative AI tools. These upgrades will finish rolling out worldwide by late July 2026. Your administrative data will now refresh much faster, moving to a 48-hour window instead of the old 72-hour latency. In addition, the default reporting view shifts to a standardized 28-day window.
Understanding the Split Between User and Agent Activity
Adoption reporting is how IT teams prove that Copilot justifies its premium licensing costs. Because of this, the cleaner split between human and automated traffic is the most critical change in this release.
Until now, background agent traffic could inflate your totals. This obscured whether actual employees were building habits. The updated reporting experience completely separates agent metrics into their own distinct report. This ensures that custom extension traffic stops muddying your core user adoption trends.
Expanding Your Analytics Capabilities via Microsoft Graph
If your leadership team requires custom dashboards, Microsoft is also expanding the available analytics. You can now access deeper metrics, including anonymized user-level activity details, directly through the Microsoft Graph API.
Administrators should execute three next steps to prepare their internal stakeholders:
- Adjust your dashboards: Point your custom Power BI or adoption dashboards at the new 28-day default window.
- Update Graph scripts: Modify your extraction scripts to pull the expanded user-level data from the Microsoft Graph API.
- Refine executive reports: Separate custom agent interactions from core employee activities in your next executive briefing.
Are you building a Copilot adoption story for your executive team? We can help you configure these reports and surface the metrics that actually move a renewal conversation.
