With the final SharePoint Alerts retirement looming, list and library notifications people quietly depend on—like document-change notices or approval nudges—will go silent with no replacement unless you’ve rebuilt them first.
##What to do before the July deadline:
• Run the Microsoft 365 Assessment tool to find where SharePoint Alerts are still in use.
• Rebuild each one as a Power Automate flow (richer logic) or a SharePoint Rules (simple notifications).
• Update any help desk or training docs that still tell users to “set an alert.”
Why Are SharePoint Alerts Disappearing?
Microsoft is finishing a multi-stage retirement of SharePoint Alerts. Creation is already blocked and existing alerts have been expiring since late last year; in July 2026 the feature stops entirely — remaining alerts can’t be extended and won’t fire.
The catch is that it arrived in phases, so it’s easy to miss. List and library notifications people quietly depend on — document-change notices, approval nudges — go silent with no replacement unless you’ve rebuilt them first.
For other M365 admins: have you mapped your alerts to Power Automate yet, or is it still on the backlog? It is worth comparing which scenarios move cleanly to SharePoint Rules versus a full flow before the cutoff.
