San Juan County, located in the picturesque Salish Sea in Washington State’s far northwestern corner, sought to modernize its aging intranet and streamline its public communications.

Challenge

The county was grappling with an outdated intranet portal that was proving inefficient for internal operations. Additionally, their public website was overloaded, serving as a catch-all for various communications which diluted the effectiveness of public engagement.

What We Did

To address these issues, we implemented our Porteo Intranet SharePoint platform, a turnkey solution tailored to meet the specific organizational goals of San Juan County. Key features of the implementation included:

  • Update in 2021: Transition to Office 365 with custom Information Architecture utilizing a hub and spoke model to enhance connectivity and data flow across departments.

The new intranet portal was immediately embraced by the county staff, significantly enhancing employee lookup, communications, and collaboration. The platform’s adaptability facilitated the development of specialized applications to resolve specific operational challenges, including:

  • Ferry Ticket Exchange System: Streamlined the process of buying and exchanging ferry tickets.
  • Enhanced Staff Directory: Provided a comprehensive and user-friendly directory to improve internal communications.
